MEET DANIEL:

Daniel Gullion is a lifelong Morgan County resident, educator, coach, and school leader with more than two decades of experience serving students at every level. Daniel was raised on a family farm in Morgan County, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. His parents instilled in him a deep respect for education and service, lessons that continue to define his leadership today.

After a career-ending football injury at Auburn University, Daniel felt a calling to education and returned home to serve Morgan County Schools. He has taught agriculture and special education, coached student-athletes, and served as both assistant principal and principal. Daniel is currently in his 10th year as Principal of Priceville Elementary School, where the school has consistently earned an “A” rating with strong academic performance and low staff turnover.

Most importantly, Daniel is a husband and father who believes leadership is about service. His guiding principle is simple: put students first in every decision.

DANIEL'S TOP ISSUES & CONCERNS:

Transparency & Community Relations

The number one concern I hear from parents and community members across Morgan County is transparency. Often, it’s not the big issues that cause frustration – it’s the small things. Explaining why decisions are made, making information easier to find, and communicating school closures or changes in a timely manner go a long way in building trust. As Superintendent, transparency will be a top priority. I believe transparency starts with listening, which is why I will always maintain an open-door policy for parents, employees, and community members. I also commit to providing monthly updates through our social media platforms, offering consistent communication and a closer look at what’s happening across Morgan County Schools. Transparency shouldn’t be complicated – it’s simply a matter of telling the truth and keeping people informed. I also support hosting periodic town hall meetings throughout our school communities, giving parents, grandparents, and invested citizens the opportunity to hear directly from school leadership and have their voices heard. Education works best when we work together.

Accountability

As a God-fearing Christian, I believe accountability matters – especially in public service. Leadership is not about having all the answers; it’s about being willing to listen, learn, and improve. As Superintendent, I will welcome feedback, criticism, and recommendations from the public. I understand that no one is perfect, and I will never pretend to be. Through open communication, constructive criticism, and a commitment to keeping an open mind, I will work every day to be the hardest-working superintendent Morgan County has ever seen – accountable to our students, our employees, and our taxpayers.

Fiscal Responsibility

Beyond ensuring our students are safe and receiving a quality education, fiscal responsibility is one of the most important duties of a superintendent. As a conservative, I believe in being a good steward of taxpayer dollars, and that begins with realistic priorities. First and foremost, our school campuses must be safe, functional, and welcoming environments for both students and employees. My guiding principle is Students First, which means putting the needs of children above appearances or politics. Through careful planning, responsible management, and close collaboration with the school board, I believe we can build budgets that support our students, teachers, and staff without overextending ourselves or postponing critical needs just to “look good” when it's convenient.

School Safety

A safe and healthy learning environment is essential for student success. In today’s world, safety can never be taken lightly, and I am committed to leaving no stone unturned when it comes to protecting our students and employees. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement agencies have done an outstanding job staffing our schools with trained, certified School Resource Officers who are prepared to act in moments of danger. As a result, Morgan County is positioned to address potential threats before they ever escalate. As Superintendent, my goal is to strengthen that partnership, assist in identifying additional funding opportunities for SROs, and consistently improve our school safety procedures. As both an educator and a parent with children in Morgan County Schools, this responsibility is deeply personal to me.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Not every student is meant to follow the same path after graduation – and that’s okay. Success looks different for every child, and my goal as Superintendent is to ensure that every student, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, has every opportunity to succeed. Morgan County is home to one of the strongest career technical education programs in the state, and with rapid growth in nearby areas like Huntsville, there has never been a better time to expand opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Through continued investment in career tech programs, vocational training, and community partnerships, I want students to know that no matter their chosen path – workforce, military, trade school, or college – we will help them prepare for the future.

Maintaining a Positive and Healthy School & Employment Culture

Our teachers, administrators, and support staff are the lifeblood of Morgan County Schools. As a principal, I’ve seen firsthand the long hours, early mornings, late nights, and personal sacrifices educators make – not for the paycheck, but because they truly care about our children. As Superintendent, I will prioritize a positive, healthy school culture where employees feel supported, respected, and valued. When educators are given the tools, trust, and encouragement they need, our students benefit. Strong schools are built on strong relationships, and I am committed to creating an environment where our educators can do their best work every day.

Putting Students First in Every Decision

From the beginning of my career, my focus has always been on students. That belief is summed up in my campaign slogan: Students First. Every decision – whether it involves curriculum, safety, staffing, or budgeting – should be guided by one simple question: What is best for students? When we put children first, we create schools where students want to learn, teachers want to teach, and communities want to invest. By prioritizing students above all else, we strengthen attendance, improve test scores, and build a school system that prepares the next generation for success in life – not just in the classroom.
